Want a fun and fulfilling part-time job in animal welfare with a non-profit? Join CCHS as an Animal Caregiver! We’re looking for a reliable, motivated self-starter to help care for our animals. Responsibilities include cleaning enclosures, handling animals with varying temperaments, and using disinfecting solutions. The work takes place both indoors and outdoors, in all kinds of weather.

Animal Caregiver. The starting wage is $14.00/hr for Sunday/Wednesday. Some on-call duties for stray pick-up may be included.

A valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a clean driving record is required, and candidates must be insurable through our auto insurance. Lifting 50lbs or more may be necessary. Work on weekdays, weekends, and holidays is expected, as animals require care year-round. Benefits include a retirement plan after one year of employment, vacation/sick leave after one year of employment and Aflac options. CCHS does conduct pre-employment drug testing.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Columbia County Humane Society has an immediate, open position for an on-call animals pick up person.  Candidates would be responsible for responding to calls for service as requested by CCHS, local Police Departments and the Columbia Co Sheriff’s Department after normal business hours and overnight.  Nights needed are Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Pay rate: $20 per hour/non-exempt

The primary duties of this position include responding to calls for stray animal pickups or arrests where animals are involved when CCHS is closed to the public.   Nights needed are Friday, Saturday and Sunday overnights. Opportunities to pick up more nights if needed. There is some minimal paperwork involved with position.  This position is strictly on call overnights.  

CCHS provides company van (van does stay at CCHS), tools, phone and supplies needed for pick-ups.

The ideal candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  2. Candidate must have a valid WI Driver’s license with a CLEAN driving record and be insurable through the company’s auto policy——No exceptions.
  3. Ability to accurately complete intake records and document activities
  4. Needs to be able to lift animals of varying weight into a van.
  5. Ability to work on-call on a varied schedule weekend nights and holidays. There are no set hours; it’s strictly an on-call position. 
  6. Have basic animal handling skills and familiarity with working with both dogs and cats of varying temperaments.
  7. Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  8. Training will be provided. 
  9. Willingness to be available overnight to assist Law Enforcement with animal pickups.
